Yoga in Tulum, Mexico: Private Classes, Breathwork and Ceremonies at Our House

Quick answer

For yoga in Tulum, Mexico, we keep it private: one-to-one or small classes with Samadhi Studio's instructors, booked through our concierge whenever suits you. Choose from Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Gannon Power Vinyasa, Restorative Flow and Pranayama Meditation. Pair a class with a Mayan-rooted ceremony (cacao, pre-Hispanic sound healing, a Temazcal next to a cenote) or a treatment at La Valise SPA, open daily 9 AM to 7 PM. Classes and ceremonies are by appointment and aren't included in the room rate.

How yoga works at our house

Yoga here is private and by appointment. We don't run a fixed timetable of group classes. You tell us when you'd like to practise and what kind of session you're after, and we book one of Samadhi Studio's instructors for you. Mornings before the heat, late afternoons as the light drops, whenever suits you.

We're a small house on Tulum's beach road, at Km 8.7 of the Tulum-Boca Paila road, and that size is why it works this way. Twelve rooms means we tend to remember what you like, so if you want the same teacher at the same hour every day of your stay, say so once and we'll keep it running.

Classes need a reservation and are charged separately from your room. Ask your concierge, who is on hand 24/7, or use the guest experiences form we send before arrival.

The classes you can book

There are five styles on our menu, and they suit quite different moods:

Class What it is Pick it if
Ashtanga Yoga A strengthening, detoxifying power sequence You practise at home and want structure
Yoga Vinyasa Flow Movement synchronised with the breath You want a steady, all-round session
Yoga Gannon Power Vinyasa A fast blend of vinyasa and ashtanga You want to break a sweat
Yoga Restorative Flow A slow, deep, rhythmic sequence You've just landed, or you've overdone the sun
Yoga Pranayama Meditation Meditative yogic breathwork You'd rather sit than move

Our honest suggestion for a first morning: Restorative Flow. Most people arrive tighter than they think after the flight and the drive down Highway 307. Save the Power Vinyasa for day three.

Ceremonies, if you want to go further

Ceremony was the Mayans' way of healing, giving thanks and marking change, and we can set these up alongside your yoga. All of them are by appointment.

  • Cacao Ceremony: a heart-opening ceremony. A good one to do on your first or last evening.
  • Pre-Hispanic Sound Healing: the sounds of the elements, played over you while you lie still. Pairs well with a Restorative class earlier in the day.
  • Mud Ritual: a 2-hour session connecting you with the earth. Block out a whole afternoon for it.
  • Mayan Healing: a Temazcal sweat lodge in a local village, next to a cenote, followed by a hosted Yucatecan dinner. This is the one that takes you out of the house, so plan an evening around it.
  • Couples Lunar Ceremony and Couples Fire Ceremony: a night-time couples massage, and a cacao couples massage with vows of intention.

There are also Chakra Harmonizing, Forgiveness, Akashic Records and Human Design readings. Ask us and we'll explain what each involves before you commit.

La Valise SPA, just down the path

La Valise SPA is open every day, 9 AM to 7 PM. Treatments happen in our two SPA cabins or in your suite. If you're travelling as two, there's a private, air-conditioned space where you can both be treated at the same time.

A few things people ask: there's no sauna or spa pool, but treatments use hot and cold tubs depending on what you choose. The products are 100% natural. There are male and female therapists. The SPA takes cash, credit and debit cards.

A week built around it

If you'd rather have the whole week planned, we run Five-Day Workshops twice. Of Spirit Week is the one for mind, body and soul. Culture Lab Week is with local creatives and is less about the mat.

Outside of classes, there's a gym on property, the pool, and the rooftop. The rooftop looks over jungle on one side and sea on the other, from sunrise to sunset, and it's where a lot of people end up sitting quietly after a session anyway.

Before you book

We're best suited to guests aged 12 and over, so this is an adults-and-teens kind of house. If you have dietary needs (gluten-free, dairy-free), tell us when you book and the kitchen will plan around them. Think of it as our home, not a hotel: you set the pace, and we'll arrange the rest.
