Tulum Beach Club: How Ours Works, From Breakfast to the Last Swim

Quick answer

The XELA Beach Club is a Tulum beach club for people staying with us, not a day-pass club. If you're in one of our rooms, the palapas, loungers and beach towels are included, nothing needs reserving, and breakfast is on us every morning. Lunch runs on the sand from 12 to 5 daily: aguachiles, Peruvian fish ceviche, tuna tostadas, tacos, a burger and key lime pie, priced in pesos with tax included. We're cash-free, so pay by card or charge it to your room.

Can anyone use our beach club?

No. The XELA Beach Club is only for people staying with us. We don't sell day passes, and there's no minimum spend or bed to reserve. If you're in one of our rooms, the palapas, loungers and beach towels are simply yours.

So if you searched "Tulum beach club" hoping for a day pass, we're honestly not the right stop. If you're choosing where to stay and want a beach you don't have to book a slot on, read on. This is how a day on our sand actually goes.

Where our stretch of beach is

We're at Km 8.7 on the Tulum-Boca Paila road, the beach road that runs along Tulum's hotel zone. Our rooms open straight onto it: Caracol, our lower beachfront suite, sits on the dune with direct access to the sand, and Casa Playa has a veranda that runs out toward the Caribbean.

We sit inside a protected natural area, so the beach and the land behind it are shared with the local wildlife. Don't be surprised by the odd visitor near the palapas. That's part of living here.

Breakfast is included, and it starts on the beach

Breakfast comes with your stay at no extra charge, and the beach club is where we serve it. Take it slowly. No rush. We'll be here.

If you eat gluten-free or dairy-free, tell us when you book and we'll plan for it. Vegetarian, gluten-free and nut-free dishes are marked on the menu.

What we serve on the sand, 12 to 5

Lunch runs from 12:00 to 5:00 pm, every day of the week. The menu is short and built for eating with sand on your feet:

  • To start: guacamole and truffle fries.
  • From the sea: a trio of aguachiles, Peruvian fish ceviche, and tuna and fish tostadas.
  • Something more filling: tacos, or a classic beef burger if you've had your fill of seafood.
  • To finish: key lime pie, or exotic fruits served in a coconut.

Prices are in Mexican pesos with taxes included. Service isn't included, so leave what feels right.

You don't need to book a table. Find a palapa, and we'll come to you.

Paying: we're cash-free

We don't take cash at the hotel. Pay by credit or debit card, or charge it to your room and settle up when you leave. That catches some people out, because a lot of Tulum still runs on cash, so it's worth knowing before you hit the ATM.

After 5: where the day goes next

The beach club closes at 5, but the house doesn't.

  • XELA Izakaya: our Asian-inspired menu by the sea, served every evening, with a few international favorites alongside.
  • The rooftop: open from sunrise to sunset, and the place to catch the last light. It looks over jungle on one side and sea on the other.
  • Room service: select dishes brought to your room or terrace, 1:00 to 10:00 pm, if you'd rather not get dressed again.
  • NÜ Tulum: our jungle-side sister restaurant, recommended by the Michelin Guide. It's a fusion of modern and traditional Mexican cooking, and the one to book for a night out. We can set that up for you.

The pool and the spa, for the hours you're not on the sand

Our pool is there when the sea is rough or you just want fresh water. Beach towels are provided there too.

La Valise SPA is just down the path, open daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Treatments happen in one of our two spa cabins or in your own suite. There's a private, air-conditioned space for two if you want to book a treatment together, and everything we use is 100% natural.

About the seaweed

Sargassum is the one thing we can't promise you about the beach. It's a natural occurrence across the Mexican Caribbean, Tulum included, and when it arrives and how much comes in is unpredictable. We have a dedicated team that works to keep our stretch of beach clear. If it's heavy on the day you arrive, the pool and the rooftop are good places to wait it out.

A few house notes for the beach

  • Our bikes are shared and free to use, which is the easy way to explore the beach road in either direction.
  • Smoking isn't allowed anywhere on the property, the beach club included. There's a designated area in front of the hotel.
  • Drones aren't allowed within the hotel's boundaries.
  • We're best suited to guests aged 12 and over, so the beach is usually quiet.

Think of it as our home, not a hotel. The beach out front is the part of it we spend the most time on.
